ZMF goes to Amsterdam!
For our ninth summer marimba festival, ZMF goes overseas! Amsterdam, the Netherlands (settled in 1275) is a city of rare beauty, charm, and cultural vitalitywith its canals, Renaissance architecture, rich art history, lively contemporary arts scene, and warm, open-minded, robust people. Both Dutch and English are spoken everywhere.
This venture springs from Nancy’s love for the city, and her desire for all it offers to be part of the musical/inspirational spirit always prevalent at ZMF. This is made possible by the enormous generosity of Conservatorium van Amsterdam that will graciously host us at their breathtaking, new facility. We will extend the festival by two days this year in order to include sightseeing in Amsterdam and the Dutch countryside.
The marimba workshop experience will be as fertile as ever, with some new and some past faculty members joined by guest speakers on a wide range of topics. We anticipate between 45 and 50 participants will attend from all over the world to share their ideas and music.
A series of nine concertsopen to the publicwill feature the marimba, vibraphone, and other percussion instruments in performances by this year’s renowned faculty, guest artists, and emerging marimba stars. This will be an incredible introduction to repertoire by many diverse composers, reflecting an enormous range of influences.
